Muna Mingole

Muna signifies "Child" in Duala. Born in Paris, France, Muna Mingole arrives in Canada at age 2 with her family. In 1985, she discovers Cameroon, her parent's native land where she lives for 8 years and gets acquainted with her ancestor's village, Malimba, a beautiful island. Blue, symbol of water, characterizes values of hope, communication, courage and perseverance, and like her ancestors, Muna shares theses values and transposes them into her songs. Muna is without a doubt the "Blue Fire" of Cameroon!
She starts singing in 1990 as her school's lead singer and wins for 2 consecutive years (1990 and 1991) the award for best female singer of Douala, her homeland town (Cameroon). In 1992, the new Voice of Cameroon chooses to come back to Canada and pursues her studies at University of Montreal. Five years later, her passion for singing and dancing drives her to join a music band in which she composes and interprets African and West Indies rhythms.
It's in 1999 that she crosses the threshold of the Canadian World beat music scene. As she proofs herself as the new queen of most popular rhythms of Cameroon, Makossa and Bikutsi, she quickly gains considerable regional recognition throughout Quebec, Ontario and Alberta provinces. In 2000, she is quoted by the Festival "Francofolies de Montréal" as the "New World beat rhythms revelation achieving most spectacular and fastest ascension in the Afro-Quebec scene".
Her career truly rises during summer 2002 as she wins the 2002 Montreal African Recognition Award for the category "Best World Beat Musical Hope 2002". Muna is also invited to sing for more than 200 000 people at the Francofolies of Montreal's Great Event: "La fête africaine" (the African Fiesta), and again later in August 2002 to entertain royalty, the Queen Elizabeth II, in Ottawa, during her Canadian jubilee tour.
Muna's immense popularity has lead her to share the stage with music greats such as Angélique Kidjo (Benin), Kanda Bongo Man (Democratic Republic of Congo),
Les Têtes Brulées (Cameroon), and many others. Be ready for Muna Mingole and her "Munakossa" as they are the hottest musical event that none should miss!
