Jean Paul

Biography

Jean Paul was born in august 25th 1978, in Santiago de Chile. His parents had to leave the country right after his birth, because of the dictature controled by Pinochet. They found opportunities in France where they decided to stay. Fighting from overseas, his parents were organising events to support politicals prisoners from their country. Marching in the streets screaming for justice, parties where chilean musician were playing anti-dictature songs, Jean paul grew up in the middle of that.
He has always been very attracted to instruments. When he was 5, his parents found him playing melodies on a piano. After years, he kept on paying attention to musicians, and using every chance he got to play when he could find an instrument around.
Seeing that music was obviously a big interest for him, his parents decided to buy him a small synthetiser. He started playing songs from Beatles that he sang with his mother sometimes... He composed christmas song with his sister, and decided to take some piano lessons... It went very bad. His teacher wanted to teach him Bach and Mozart, while he was in the Beatles mood. He stopped right away, saying to his mother :"She´s bad, mom, she doesnt even know how to play Let it be.". So he kept on playing in his room, and singing with his mother.
Around 11 years old, he met two guys at school who liked Beatles and played music too. They decided to form a band. First band experience...!
After years, after a lot of songs composed, after a long education, Jean paul got a graduation in Physics in the University of Luminy. But he had to drop it, to dedicate himself to music. He started recording at home on his old computer, with a very bad microphone.... After few songs recorded on minidisc, he decided to hit the road to Paris to find producers....
Thats how he met Soraya and Robson, both working with big names in France. It ended with a record in a studio in Paris.... Nothing really happened.
Back to real life in Marseille....What to do now? Thats how he started with his friends in a Jazz school for a year. Paradise! Only musicians, pianos in all the rooms, music blackboard, music teatchers, music parties.....surrounded by music.....all the time!
After this amazing year spent there, they formed a band "jazz 4 fun" with Alexandre Evin, Sebastien Markezana, Benjamin Bugnion and Jean paul, playing jazz standard with a funky brasilian style.... They started playing the whole summer around town. One night, after a gig in the center of Marseille, a guy, Hamadi Boudina, proposed them to travel to Danmark for a Youth program, where musicians were needed.
There, they had a great time performing in parks and nice venues.... They applied for a European Volontary Service program.... They´ve been helping Ray Andres and his organisation Future Kulture for a year. The band finally split up. Not really motivated anymore.
Jean Paul started composing songs for an album solo. He asked Lennart Rasmussen to help him with the studio. They spent five months together recording, Jean paul playing all the instruments, Lennart in the computer managing the mix. Then the master.
For the design of the booklet, the very talented italian designer Fernando Artigiano helped him.
Jean paul is now playing with his own band all around Europe. His albums are already considered quality and class from all....
